I am a 66-year-old with a fib. I’ve had four adaptions none of them worked I was put on Tykosyn three years ago have had tremendous success with it with only about two or three episodes over the last 3 1/2 years. Each episode didn’t last more than two hours. So I’m very thankful to the drug.I also have had four back operations and now in a lot of pain with back problems. I was told by my back doctor that He wanted to put me on steroids for five days to get the inflamation down. I explained to him that I have a fib I’m on Xarelto and Tykosyn and that some people can get triggered by steroids. Many anti-inflammatories I can’t take like Celebrex.I was wondering if anybody has anything that they’re using right now that is a good anti-inflammatory but can be used by people who have a fib.

NSAIDs are not advised for anybody with AF I'm afraid. Obviously you are not in UK if you take tikosyn which is not available here in UK or Europe.

Thanks Bob! The Tykosyn is really working wonders! Too bad I have back pain that I can’t treat correctly with any anti-inflammatories

I have been taking Tikosyn

for over 2 years without any recurrence of my atrial fibrillation. During this time I have been on short doses of steroids for other conditions and have experienced no ill effects. There is no doubt that oral steroids would increase the chance of stomach bleeding if taken over a prolonged period of time perhaps injectables may be safer although I don't really know in terms of the bleeding. In terms of increasing the chance of recurrence of atrial fibrillation as far as I know there are no definitive studies. You just have to listen to what your EP says and suggest. Best of luck.

I’m also 66 😊. I’ve been taking Edoxaban anti coagulant since June last year for recently diagnosed A-fib. I’ve also been taking Prednisolone corticosteroid since diagnosis of Polymyalgia Rheumatica in December. I’ve been advised that I will need to take the steroids for up to two years, maybe longer! No apparent side effects yet - although I notice my skin thinning already, which is a bit distressing! I’m concerned to read that steroids could increase risk of stomach bleeding, as internal bleeding is also a risk with anticoagulants. But I guess if you only need to take steroids for a short period, you should be ok. I hope you can find good pain relief for your back.
