AF medicines check.

Hi I've not posted on here before but have found some of the posts relevant to my condition. I was diagnosed with AF two years ago and had a cardioversion three months later after an echocardiogram and taking Apixaban and Bisoprolol for those three months. The cardioversion was successful and I was then put on Flecainide 50 mgs twice a day. I take 1.25 mg Bisoprolol and 5mg Apixaban twice daily. I have not had any checks for these medicines like blood tests and only 1 blood pressure check in nearly two years. Is this normal or should I be checked every so often? I order prescriptions online and every other month it says I can't order the Flecainide without a review by Dr but they renew it anyway. I still get runs of palpitations but they so far have stopped after I move around or take in a deep breath.

Does anyone else on these tablets get checked?

Unfortunately some surgeries do not always follow NICE recommendations when it comes to medication reviews and very often it’s the patient who has to initiate a review. This generally happens when a patient feels there has been a change in either their condition or the effectiveness of the medication in controlling that condition. That said, the situation regarding DOAC’s is different because there is a significant requirement for regular blood tests to check kidney function. This is not because they can have an adverse effect on the kidneys, it is to make sure they are capable of dispersing excess medication.
