I was talking recently with a friend, who I don’t see very often, about my AF, and he mentioned that he occasionally gets episodes of what sounds like flutter or irregular heartbeat which last about 10 seconds. He has never had a protracted episode. He has had this checked with his doctor who did an ECG which came back as normal. He was told that he had nothing to worry about. I am wondering, however, if this could be nascent AF or something similar. Any ideas?

Friend with AF?
I doctor once told me that if it lasts less than 30 seconds it doesn't need a name.
That’s encouraging. Have had a couple more similar episodes since I got up.
Have a look at this presentation by Dr Sanjay Gupta. He says in trials even healthy people have some odd rhythms and it's normal:

Thanks for posting this-it is reassuring. I noticed the symptoms because they are unusual for me-normally I don’t get very many in the morning (they tend to be in the evenings or at night). I have had a bit of indigestion recently, so I’m wondering if it might be something to do with that. At any rate, I recommend that others watch this video if they have the same sort of thing.
Until I watched this presentation and heard the statistics for normal healthy people having odd beats, I had no idea this could be so.
I would recommend everyone watch it.
