Thanks to all who replied to last couple of posts about itching and burning scalp when starting on apixiban.
Went to gp today who feels that it is not for me so will try riveroxaban. Here’s hoping.
Any pointers, eg good times to take it etc would be gratefully appreciated

No personal experience Linda but I believe it is very important that it is taken with a proper meal (as opposed to something on toast) otherwise it can cause stomach problems. I’m sure that others who take it will comment.......
Actually worse than stomach problems. If not taken with a proper meal containing fat, Rivaroxaban may not be absorbed so you may not be protected from stroke. There was a bulletin about this late last year.
Yes many people take this drug, hopefully safely when they heed the advice.
You shouldn’t worry about taking this drug but PLEASE do take Bob’s advice very seriously as the consequences of not taking Rivaroxaban with a meal which contains protein and fat can be serious as the drug may not be metabolised well enough and therefore it will not give you the 24 hours protection you need. In addition because it wasn’t metabolised & absorbed properly in your stomach, your liver may struggle to clear the drug from your system.
We don’t say these things to worry people - just to give the information that we have learned from experience is not always published on the leaflet, mostly not known by Doctors and by a lot of people.
As you take once every 24 hours just take with your main meal of the day which should be at least 500 calories and be around the same time of day. An hour or two’s differences is not going to matter but as it covers you for 24 hours it needs to be roughly the same time of day.
I’ve been on apixoban for a few years now with no problems.
However as I don’t eat breakfast I take mine with water only. Is this ok or should I change my times of day? Literature says either with food or just water?
Certainly will do. Have been advised to wait a few days before starting rivaroxaban to help clarify any issues. Fingers crossed. The scalp burning was not good
