What is ablation

I have seen a lot of chat about ablation, but what is it? Nobody has ever suggested it to me, but am wondering if it’s electric shock to get the heart back into rhythm.

Rather than re-invent the wheel, it would be easier if you click on the link below, then ask questions if there is anything you are not sure about.

If you want to be really brave, click on this link and see one being performed.

That was interesting. I had no idea what an ablation was either. I looked at the video. I had no idea you could also have it for tiredness and fatigue!!

No - that’s a cardioversion.

Ablation is a procedure performed in a Cath Lab where a catheter is inserted into a vein, threaded through into the atria of the heart where various cells of the lining of the heart are burned by freezing or burning so that scar tissue forms - which blocks the rogue electrical signals.

I’ll post the link.

You will find details on the AFA website - loads of information & explanations of various treatments.

No good procedure for reducing symptoms. Sounds worse that it is.

I thought so too...but was not that big of a deal. Would have another if I needed it without hesitation.

Maybe because you have a pacemaker? But that doesn't mean you can't have an ablation - info from my cardiologist.

If you want one after reading info you need to complain about your QOL more and ask to see an EP (Arrhythmia specialist).

I had an icd fitted in September for nsvt no cardiomyopathy no syncope healthy heart but still get pvc on a daily basis which are scary because I sometimes go light headed with them. my meds have been upped to 15mg a day of Bisoprolol my cardiologist said if the plc don’t stop I could have an ablation which for vt with a healthy heart as got above a 75 % success rate.
