Do your ectopics worsen when you're ill/have a cold?

Hey all - I have my first cold in over a year and I'm feeling so much worse than usual because I am also suffering with chronic fatigue/ME.

I was ablated almost 3 years ago but still regularly suffer with ectopics. Since coming down with this cold though, my heart has obviously been beating faster due to illness but I'm getting regular ectopics which are really disconcerting. Is this familiar to anyone else?

Everybody's heart is different. Not to rain on your query but six weeks after I had an ablation, I came down with pneumonia and the concurrent medications. Never had any ectopics, but that's not to say that you're not experiencing them. Just to validate that you can't rely on others experiences.

No, of course not. Just looking for some reassurance that others have experienced an increase.

Everybody's heart is different, but there are still similarities between many people, otherwise there'd be little point in sites like this.

I find that lack of sleep and/or stress trigger ectopics. Also, cold drinks or (sometimes) chocolate or large meals. If you have had a marked increase in ectopics recently then it’s probably worth having them investigated, perhaps with a 24 hour monitor.

Me too - looooots of triggers.

Haven't had a cold for a long time, that's why I'm wondering if others have experienced an increase with a cold/illness.

I started with sore throat which progressed to the dreaded cough, three weeks ago. As is always the case when I have any infection my heart goes on a wobbly. I think it's ectopics not AF. They lasted on and off for about a week, but all is quiet again now thankfully. As you say it's very disconcerting. Hope you soon feel OK. Best wishes Kath.

Hi cat55, thanks - that's really all I was hoping for, a few people to confirm they experienced an increase in ectopics or heart activity when ill. I know being sick puts extra strain on your heart, so it would make sense but you're right, it can be very worrying when it happens. I took 3 hours trying to get to sleep last night due to it.

Yes, Same here - being unwell always causes me to have ectopics & fast heart rate even on just getting up out of a chair or bed. Along with lack of sleep due to coughing or just being unwel it can leave one exhausted.

You and me both. I've had this cough for about three weeks now but started to feel ill before Christmas, was diagnosed with AF for the first time on Wednesday morning. Great.
