Thermal Spa Experience

A friend has invited me to a thermal spa experience. This includes 2 types of sauna, a steam room and hydrothetapy pool.

I said yes but am now having second thoughts. I have been stable ( well as far as AF concerned!!)for a long while and I would hate to rock the boat or be limited to maybe just the pool

Any thoughts?

I do understand your concern and wonder if a chat with your doctor maat help you decide? I don't think we are qualified to advise.

The last time I went swimming at our local indoor pool, it set my AF off serious style. I'm scared to go again now. That wasn't the first time swimming had set it off and I do wonder whether the chemicals in the water were the trigger or the actual swimming.

I love swimming - absolutely no problems and is the best form of exercise for me. Sauna is too much these days, steam room ok for very short periods as long as it’s followed by cold dip or shower to improve vagal tone. Jacquizzi and hydropool is lovely and very relaxing as long as the water temperature is not too warm, unfortunately at my local spa they tend to keep the water temperature a too high a temperature for me.

I’ve been doing this all my adult life and love it and find it’s very relaxing but if it is completely new to you - go carefully.

Best wishes

I had no problems when I did a similar thing..except the sauna was too hot....but the steam room was great. Even the jacuzzi was ok. To be on the safe side maybe check with Dr but as I said I came home rejuvenated! Xxx

I have to be very careful even when having a shower - window open, cool water etc and I blame the steam. Before I started Flecainide taking a shower was the nightmare that always triggered my AF.

Must say, though, it sounds lovely. Best wishes and enjoy it if you decide to go.

My heart doc told me to avoid hot tubs as the hot water can dilate the blood vessels which lowers the blood pressure, in turn heat makes the heart work harder. Having said that, at the occaisional night in a motel, I have gingerly used the hot tub without any problem but it wasnt overly hot and I didnt stay in long. Once I tried a water class in a heated pool and that was not good. Dont know if it was the heat or the strong pool chemical smell, but I didnt tolerate that too well
