I use co codamol 15/500 or 30/500 If necessary .....prescription only of course.

I was given tramadol but made me feel very ill

Hi, Happy New Year to you,

I was told the same because I am on Warfarin. For pain relief I use Cocodomol 30/500, available on NHS prescription only. I also use heat patches and pain patches.

Hi Vonnie :-) I hope things are going well for you.

Like Jalia and Carney I take co-codamol for pain relief having been advised by my doctor not to take NSAIs like Ibuprofen while taking an anticoagulant like Apixaban.

I was also told not to take co-codamol for more than 3 days at a time.

It is best to have a word with your GP failing that a pharmacist for advise.

Lovely to hear from you again stay well ;-)

No good answers I fear. My docs say no to ibuprofen, any nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drug. I tried CBD oil but couldnt tell it helped. On my knee heat seems to help the most and exercise. When I ride my exercise bike it helps.

Hoski , may I ask how often that you use your exercise bike ..??

in reply toBertiedette

I ride it 30 minutes every day. When I first got it, my knee was so stiff I couldnt even make one rotation on the pedals. Eventually my bad knee got less stiff and I started with 5 minutes and worked up to 30. It is a recumbent bike with a large comfy seat.

Hoski ,I try to do 30 mins each day .I suffer with Fibromyalgia so with that and the beta blocker its hard going. Beats going to the gym for me.

in reply toBertiedette

Yes, I hate gyms. Im lazy plus I think they are germy places. Fibromyalgia sure makes life more complicated. I dont ride my bike as hard as I should but it sure helps my range of motion in my creaky knees

Hi Hoskins I read CBD oil was a no no to anyone with AF taking anti. claimants how come you're doc allowed you to use it. Do you suffer from Gout?? Glad, x. I didn't type anticlaimants I typed anti-coagulants this kindle has a mind of its own lol.

in reply toGladaven

No to gout, I have arthritis in my knees. I wasnt aware cbd oil was a no no.

Hi I asked on CBD Oil's own website if it was safe to take with warfarin and the answer was a definite NO ! Too much interaction! Risk of internal bleeding ! Google it. Glad, x.

in reply toGladaven

Thanks for pointing that out💜

Your welcome Hoski, I was sorry that I couldn't take the oil cos it is supposed to be good for anxiety which I get but I just can't take the risk. Glad, x.

I was advised by GP (who was a rheumatologist) to take 1g bd of Glucosamine. It takes 1 month to have any affect, it’s not a painkiller obviously but it will help to treat the root cause for mild osteoarthritis. Works for me but it’s my knuckles which swell and get inflamed, knees not a problem.

My GP also advised Glucosamine 1500mg with Chondroitin 1250mg which does give very good control of my arthritis (hip and knee ) but it does take at least a month to "kick in."

I use Glucosamine with Chrondroitin too, and also turmeric, but one needs to be careful with that as it does have some 'blood thinning' properties, so is not ideal with anti-coagulants.

I've had osteoarthritis since I was 28. I took ibuprofen very regularly to get me through football training and shifts at work.

Admittedly, it's never been mentioned as a contributry factor nor has it's stronger big brother Naproxen. I've been on both during my AF journey, with studies showing long term Naproxen produces on average much less PAF episodes when taken beyond 6 weeks compared to short term Ibuprofen or Dicofenac usage.

Having said that I was off all NSAIDs when on warfarin and apixaban and settled for codiene. I've even had short term tramadol when really bad.

I try to get away with heat rubs when stiff and ice packs when inflamed. Frozen peas and elevation, also wear a full leg knee support when I'm at work.

Given the fact Iburofen may be one (of about three) causes of my latest PAF episode I would still advise extreme caution.

Hi Vonnie, Best Wishes yes my doc only allows me to take co.codamol brand name Zapain cos I have AF And take Warfarin. May I ask does your arthritis involve Gout? Glad x.

No I had polymalgia rhumatica last year plus arthritis in my knees

Sadly I have painful Gout (caused by too much uric acid in my blood) only again sadly I can't take the supposed cure because of its interaction with the warfarin, I can only stick to the co-codamol. Cheers Glad.

Hi Vonnie, Happy New Year to you too, lovely to hear from you. My GP wasn't very helpful with painkillers at all but to be fair not supposed to take NSAIDS, codeine or similar, so stuck with Paracetamol 😢 My pharmacist suggested Red Tiger Balm, not sure if it helped but it felt nice! Physio suggested cold or hot treatment and exercise but was in too much pain to exercise so was given shot of steroid in my hip which was really helpful so I could do recommended exercises.
