Good news got date for 2nd cardioversion

Seen cardiologist last week first time since being diagnosed September and she said she would expedite 2nd cardioversion so I just happened to ring to chase today actually spoke to consultant who said oh it’s booked next Thursday have you not had a letter! Nothing surprises me as last week they lost my blood tests.

By then I will have been on amiodarone for 5 weeks Will this be long enough ?

Bloods redone and came back and thyroid has gone up to 8.3 it was normal when they tested September so retesting next week . Obviously it’s the amiodarone causing it , will it just go back to normal once I’m off amiodarone or does it permanently damage the thyroid ?

The thyroid range can drop after you stop Amiodarone, but mine stuck at about 11.8 and I now need to take tablets for life to rectify the damage it caused. In the UK the range should be under 5, but for some other countries it's 2. I like to keep mine around 2ish, some people will say it should be below 1 for optimum health.

Wow thankyou so mine is quite high urgh I wouldn’t care I actually feel better since taking it. It’s either that or the increase in frusomide who knows I’m less breathless.

I felt fine on Amiodarone too, but it was doing the silent damage. It didn't prevent my AF from occurring though.

Hi. Looking at this post and your last post regarding the failed first cardioversion I find myself in exactly the same boat. Failed first cardioversion and I'm due for a second one soon with the cardiologist recommending Amiodarone before and after but I have to say I think I will avoid that drug if I can, it's meant to be a drug of last resort and your comment on your thyroid really gets me thinking.

Anyway, I wanted to say that like you my first cardioversion failed as soon as I ate some hot soup in the hospital, very much like you with the hot tea. I'm not saying it would have held in NSR anyway, I didn't have any drugs to try and hold it.

Next time, I won't be eating anything hot for some while, the heat in the esophagus is just too close to the heart I reckon.

There are lots more people far more experienced than me on here but I hope this helps, and please do let us now how the 2nd DCV goes.

Good luck for yours too I shall keep a eye out , I’m on diltizem too and losartan as bp went up since having af. Also being referred to see if sleep apnea could be causing af just to rule that out.
