Constipation probs
Lots of water for starters. Are you drinking at least 40 ounces of water a day? I have been plagued with the same malady as you. I try to not eat much animal protein too. Some days are better than others. You might try a liver cleanse... Those drugs will make your liver work harder and slow it down so that it accumulates more toxins. Look at Gerson therapy - just don't take it wholeheartedly to its level because its geared toward really sick patients.
Ispagula husk (brand name fybogel) is good. You could also try lactulose. Both of these work by bulking and softening the faeces, and in my opinion, are better than using drugs. Drink lots of water (I take mine in the form of black tea). You could also try high fibre breakfast cereals like all bran, or porridge is also good. High fibre foods like baked beans, kidney beans etc help too.
I love carrot and swede (lots) roughly mashed with lots of pepper. A side effect within hours is a loo visit. Works every time, but doesn't upset my stomach in the least. Forgot, a good helping of olives (not together!)
I've used fibrogel in the past and it works. However it is better to get fibre from food. I find too much from wheat causes bloating, so I limit that to shredded wheat and a slice of wholemeal a day. I also eat oats (in my home made muesli) plus include a salad for lunch of 1 pepper, a couple of sticks of celery, some small tomatoes (taste much better that "salad" tomatoes) and mixed lettuce leaves. Plus some veg in the evening. That keeps me as regular as clockwork with no bloating.
