I bought a couple of packs of paracetamol extra today without realising that the ‘extra’ was codeine. Is it OK to take them with Apixaban?

Paracetamol/codeine
Hi there - Yes it is okay to take paracetamol and codeine. I have AF and take Rivaroxaban as anticoagulant and my GP prescribes co-codamol (which is paracetamol 500mg/codeine 30mg for joint pain relief. It is the anti-inflamatory pain killers such as ibrobrufen that are not to be taken if on anticoagulants.

If you have not taken codeine before just be aware that it can cause constipation and I felt very dizzy and sick after taking one low dose paracodol 2 weeks post surgery the other week. GP said it could be a red herring though.
Yes - I was given co-codamol (30/500) by a hospital pharmacist while on Apixaban. Just don't become too reliant on it!
Remember to only take it sparingly as Codeine can be addictive if taken too often. Also taken too often such tablets lose their efficacy.

My co-codamol from gp is 500/8. Paracetamol/codeine. Which is the same as over the counter. Which are fine with noacs. 30 codeine is a high dose. Only on prescription.
Hi! Yes no problem taking it but be aware it can make you very dozy so don’t take it before driving until you get used to it. I only take it occasionally at night and I still wake up ‘slow’ after 7 hours. Get a great sleep though. Also it is extremely addictive so just take it as one off when the pain gets overbearing and make sure you have plenty of fruit the next day to counteract its tendency to cause really bad constipation. Codeine is a great relaxant for muscle pain but does need to be taken with care
