My husband had SVT ablation on 9/17/2019 and since that time his blood pressure is very high.

He started to take new medication (doctor's recommendation) and looks like it is not working.

Sometimes the numbers 180/ 96 it is scary......

Any thoughts?

Return to discuss with your doctor as soon as possible.

Thank you, I have the same opinion

Totally agree with CDreamer. Try not to get too obsessive with taking BP as the anticipation of getting the results often cause it to elevate. I expect you are already, but make sure you follow the guide, avoid food and drink before taking and always take at least 3 readings over a 15 to 20 minute period. If he is anxious, this will help to ease the anxiety but speaking to your Doctor as soon as possible is important......good luck

Good advice from Flapjack. It can also depend when you take BP - for some reason my husband’s BP is often high first thing in the morning when he takes it, but if taken an hour or so after rising it is often OK. He is on 4 meds to keep it low.

Ablation is often a series of treatments rather than a cure and many people here will have multiple ablations, I have had 2 for AF but I have known people who have had up to 8.

Nor me Aufgeblassen.....

I agree with those who say he should take it back to his doctor and certainly let the specialist know.. 180 is far too high, but I know my son and ex wife are at 220 very often, so 180 isn't uncommon, but is most undesirable.. I scored a couple of 160s in the last 2 weeks which I put down to the beta blockers (contra-indication)... Before betas, I was a steady 128/78 for many years...

Beta blockers will lower the systolic pressure as they reduce the strength of the pulse cycle.

You should discuss your doctor which of these, svt or high bp, is the main factor. there may be some options in either cases. well wishes.
