Dear all

I have mentioned before that my cardiologist has not considered or mentioned to me a referral to an EP nor discussed ablation.

So when in need talk to this forum.

I live in the north of Scotland ( Highland Health Board). Have any of you had an ablation in this area or tell me about an EP surgeon in my part of the world or Scotland

Thank you

Rod

I live in the "sunny south" Rod so have no knowledge of specialist EP's north of the border. The only thing I can suggest is to click on the link below then select UK in the "country" box. That should bring up a list of nationwide specialists for you to consider. Maybe some fellow countrymen will have more local knowledge to help you.

As far as I know, this list is by no means definitive as many specialists choose not to feature.

Hope this helps...….

I have to ask... Have you brought up the subject with him?

In the US there are GPs who are loathe to refer a patient to aspecialist, afraid to lose the revenue. Is there some equivalent to this in the UK? I do realize your system is very different.

I have asked. In the UK there is no value in not referring by the GP

thanks

I imagine your nearest specialist centre may be Aberdeen. There are 2 EPs there as far as I'm aware. Have been treated by Dr Broadhurst for last 18 months who is an excellent EP at Aberdeen Royal infirmary. I believe he does some private sessions also at Albyn hospital and The Aberdeen Clinic which may be an option for you initially if you are having difficulty getting appropriate referral.

Hi Rod, I too live up in north of Scotland about half an hour north of Inverness. My cardiologist is at Raigmore (where I had my pacemaker fitted) but my 3 ablations were all done by Dr Broadhurst at Aberdeen. The third one was on aug 1st 2018. He used every means at his disposal including a satnav type device to guide the catheter wires. It was very successful and after 7 months afib free I weaned off the Bisop (7.5 mgs daily) I immediately noticed a massive improvement in my QOL. Like you I suffered all the breathlessness and cold hands and feet etc not to mention the lethargy whilst taking it. I probably didn't wean off slowly enough and afib plus a flutter ambushed me again and I was taken into Raigmore briefly. They wanted me to re-start bisop - I refused - they wanted to use amiodorone - I refused, finally they tried calcium channel blocker, Verapamil which has been fine so far. The flutter is dealt with using overdrive on my pacemaker and I am still in nsr. I found Dr Broadhurst to be very receptive and willing to discuss everything with me in detail once he realised I had done a lot of reading up and asked intelligent questions. Good luck with your journey.
