Ectopics with Tachycardia

I (like most of us) have had periods where ectopics have driven me crazy but they have generally been at a regular heart rate (60s or 70s). This week my heart had a little wobble which felt like fast AF for about 10 minutes then it slowed but I was feeling ectopics.

I took two Kardia readings - one at 122bpm showing possible AF and the second at 76 bpm unclassified. I emailed the readings to my EP but he is on holidays so a colleague of his checked them and said the rhythm strips were showing frequent atrial ectopics rather than AF.

Just curious if others have had fast ectopic episodes.

Overall I’m feeling good - a little tired today after a very busy but exciting week (which probably pushed my heart over the edge).

Maybe time to put your feet up Kaz, instead of life at break neck speed, are you still taking tablets for af, or come off them completely, I still find that digoxin controls the bpm, even though I get regular ectopic beats during the day.

I am taking life at a much slower pace than before 😃. I’m putting my feet up over the weekend. I’m still on a low dose of beta blocker (I’ve come off Digoxin) and will probably stay on that. I don’t imagine I’ll ever be totally free of medication.

I think it is something we just have to accept Kaz, taking some type of tablets, but you sound so much better than before the ablation. Time for r and r I think...

Hi Kaz - yes - usually a symptom I attend to as I learned that if I didn’t - AF would often follow.

After 45 years if suffering from ectopic the only thing that works to suppress them every time is a dose of Gaviscon, which supports my long held belief that there it a relationship between cardiac rhythm and what is going on in the stomach. I also take a couple of magnesium citrate and a couple of potassium daily.

Cliff when you get your ectopics do you get a run of them? So a normal couple of beats then a miss then another couple of normal beats and a miss etc?

in reply to Clurmac

Yes it varies. Sometimes they get as frequent as 1 beat 1 space or 1 beat 2 spaces or 1 beat 3 spaces etc. Do you know what is actually happening? That it's not a missed beat but an extra beat?

yes I do sometimes runs of ectopics occur under 100 beats per min, but frequently they happen over 100 bpm. they are scary and exhausting
