Hello Good People... Earlier, I posted asking if anyone had tried the Parasym tVNS device yet. I know that a couple of people are renting or purchased them, and wondering how they are getting on. Also, in my most recent appointment with my electrophysiologist, he said that he plans to try to get Johns Hopkins (his research hospital) included in the upcoming multi-center study for Parasym.
I’ve recently become convinced that autonomic nervous system issues, particularly vagal nerve tone, are profoundly related to many people’s AF, mine among them. I had a head trauma event as a child, and had a cerebellar stroke which definitely damaged my vagal nerve and left me with PTSD symptoms. The stroke was my first known incident of AF. I do vagal nerve exercises, along with meditation and other things that are supposed to help boost the parasympathetic nervous system, but it doesn’t seem like any of those things can actually heal the vagus nerve, only mitigate some symptoms. However, there is increasing evidence that long-term low level electrical stimulation through a tVNS device may actually heal the vagus nerve.
I hope to hear back from more people on this forum who have a chance to try the Parasym device. I’m crossing my fingers my doctor can get involved in the next multicenter study, and that I’m part of the 50% to get the real device! in the meantime, I’m pursuing a lead on a doctor in the US who prescribes tVNS for autonomic nervous system disorders, and has just developed a ”wellness” version of the class 2 medical device version of the tVNS that he’s been using for years. That would mean I don’t have to wait until September 2020, his next available appointment (!) because the wellness device doesn’t need a prescription. This is all because I’m in the US, and can’t just purchase a parasym device the way you folks on the other side of the pond can
With gratitude for the generosity and kindness of the lovely people on this forum.
