Medication on empty stomach
I am just off this morning for an endoscopy and bravo camera attaching in my Oesophagus. I have had to stop rivaoxaban but had to take my rate control heart drug at six thirty this morning on an empty stomach with just a drop of water as instructed, not had an issue so far.
Hope all goes well for you. Not had a cardioversion so can't comment on the protocol you have to follow. Best wishes.
Rivaroxaban must not be taken on an empty stomach. It must be taken with a proper meal or it is not absorbed and will not protect you. Please speak to the team at the hospital as they should know this. Maybe best to delay taking till after your DCCV.
Think your right Bob on all you say going to speak to my doctor thank you ope you're doing well.
Hi Bob, I have been taking my Rivaroxaban every morning after a bowl of porridge made with skimmed milk and topped with either berries or a banana and a drizzle of honey and now I am concerned that this does not constitute a meal. I read an article posted on here just recently which said it should be a 500 cal meal and contain some fat. I re-read the leaflet from the Rivaroxaban box and that only states take with food. If it is so important why don't the pharma companies put more detail into their instructions? I'm now concerned that my porridge brekkies isn't sufficient to protect me.
Rosie
There was an urgent bullitin recently about this Rosemary which followed a survey which discovered that some people had stroked due to not eating correctly. A very small number but enough to cause the notice. I don't know how many calories you need but it does need fat. Why not ring the AF Association helpdesk and get it from the horses mouth. Many of us here have been telling people of this requirement for as long as I can remember.
Hello all,
The information we have is that rivaroxaban should be taken with food containing some fat. The article Bob mentioned is gov.uk/drug-safety-update/r...
I hope this helps but if you have any further questions, please speak with your doctor.
Best wishes
