Hi
I am currently taking 100mg flecainide twice daily, 3.75mg of bisoprolol, warfarin and levothyroxine(I had a total thyroidectomy about 18 years ago)
I usd to be on 10mg of bisoprolol before flecainide, along with digoxin after the episodes of AF became more frequent. After I was sent home from an A and E visit without any plans to cardiovert me, I went private and had the cardio version which worked initially and then I went back to AF. However, eventually the flecainide did its job and after a few months of alternating between AF and NSR things settled down. I came off digoxin and after a while started to very slowly reduce the bisoprolol. I got to 5mg daily and the new I started to have episodes of sitting up in bed in the morning and nearly passing out. Same happened after a visit to the dentist and he raised the chair. I had a review with my GP and she noticed that my thyroid results showed that I was a little overactive so we reduced the levothyroxine slightly over the week. I also reduced to 3.75 of bisoprolol.
Now I am having problems. Feelings of anxiety and breathlessness. Heart feelings, breaking out in a sweat. Just don’t feel good at all. Almost like the side effects of taking bisoprolol have become worse now I’m lowering the dose! I’m not sure whether to stick it out or go back to 5 mg.
I also want to try taking vitB12 and magnesium but worried about whether they are safe to take with these other meds.
And how much and when. I was feeling so much better and now I’m feeling rubbish again.
Just wondered if anybody has experienced these strange side effects I wasn’t planning to come off bisoprolol completely just wanting to take the lowest dose possible I believe you do need to take some with flecainide.
The hot weather is really not helping though I do try to drink plenty of water
Sorry this is so long and involved maybe just need some reassurance. I realise we all have an up and down experience when you have AF.
And I also realise that you aren’t able to give medical advice and I will go back and talk to my GP and cardiologist if things don’t settle down soon. And lots of you are probably feeling far worse than me. I am 65 and a retired teacher my AF started when I was suffering from an overactive thyroid I thought removing it would cure the AF but it just became gradually more frequent 5 years/4 years/ 2 years/ 1 year etc
Thank you
Gillian
