Do some more research but IMO, exercise and diet, are the two best things you can do / change if you have afib. Build up slowly and 'up it' by 5 minutes a week. You can reduce your risk of heart failure and coronary heart disease significantly.

Paul
It depends on what you mean by exercise. “Extreme” exercise is known to cause AF but reasonable, sensible exercise is good but even that is subject to interpretation. The advice we normally offer is to listen to your body and stop immediately if there are any signs of stress or strain on the body, especially the heart. Anyone recovering from an ablation are advised to refrain from any exercise for at least two weeks then very slowly exercise to normal “non sport” levels for at least 3 months, longer if possible.
100 % agree Flap. Extreme sport athletes are more likely to suffer from afib later in life. You should also listen to your body and consult a doctor before starting your exercise routine.
However it does have many benefits IMO. Start slowly and build up over time. 150 minutes a week (fast walking for example) is likely to be of benefit - built up over time. It depends of course on your overall health etc. IMO though it`s likely to be of real benefit in the long term.
I`m supposed to be working online at the moment (some hope heh) but I`ll try to dig out some facts and figures about this on Saturday when I have more time.
Interested to know what others think.
Best,
Paul
Our heart needs to be exercised like very other muscle in our body but ‘over doing it’ (whatever that phrase means) is almost certainly not a good idea. Moderation in all things I guess.
