Fluid retention from Amlode

I have recently started on Amlode, a calcium channel blocker and since then my legs get very swollen and painful. I would love to know if anyone else has experienced this. I really don't want to take a diuretic but do drink dandelion tea which seems to help.

I take Diltiazem which is a different calcium channel blocker and although swollen legs feature as a side effect, it has not been a problem for me. I can only suggest that you see your doctor as soon as possible.....

I presume that you mean Amlodopine which is a calcium channel blocker and does that to some people. Speak to your doctor as they may be alternaaitve treatments. I could never take that if I wanted to wear shoes!

Amlodopine caused swelling in my feet and ankles. I was switched to Diltiazem and haven't had that issue. My best to you.

My wife took takes these and had the same swollen ankles. The doc reduced the dose and put her on a very small dose of another type which solved the problem

I suffered swelling in feet and legs on amlodapine. Suffered for a long time not knowing that this was the culprit. Put onto losartin and my swelling went down after two days. This drug known to cause this...don't suffer like I did.

Thank you so much. I really feel very low in myself this morning. I know the medication has lowered my B/P but I feel awful with the side effects. I need to get back to myself and quickly. I am seeing my Dr tomorrow so hopefully changes will be made. Again thank you for your reply.

I’m also on Amlodipine and have this problem. When it was combined with an ace inhibitor (perindopril) it wasn’t so bad but I’m one of a few that can’t take that. For me the problem is worse in hot weather and when travelling I.e. sitting with my feet down for hours, and I’m convinced it’s worse when I’m stressed.

Sorry to read you’re feeling down with it - I can understand that but I think your doctor will probably be able to come up with something to help.

All the best.
