I had my second cardiac ablation 2 weeks ago and I have severe bruising and a haematoma at entry site. Does anyone know recovery time?

Have you had the haematoma assessed/confirmed?

Somewhere on here there's a delightful picture of my first Ablation bruising where I had a significant bleed post-op and three blonde nurses pressing on my crotch.

It took about 6 weeks before it stopped being painful. I'll try to find it.

Yes my gp confirmed. I looked at your picture but mine is much bigger than that and painful. Dr only signed me off for a week but feel I may need a bit longer.

For me, that wouldn't be long enough. But it depends on the job and home life.

Average after the ablations has been 4-6 weeks due to a very stressful manual job.

OK thanks for the reply. This didn't happen with my 1st ablation and I seemed to recover quicker. But I guess no 2 ops are the same.

Yes, I had to stay in hospital with mine for 4 days and have it aspirated. About 2 months before more or less normal.

I had a haematoma after my first ablation and at first I was convinced that it was something foreign from the procedure that had been left in my groin. Went to my GP first who said all was ok. Didn't believe him so a few days later went to A&E who also told me all ok. I can't remember exactly how long it took for the lump to go, probably a few weeks to a month. It was only when I told my EP about it at the follow up appointment that he put the name haematoma to it. Now if I'd known that could happen I wouldn't have been so worried.

I think it's BobD on this forum who has told us that his bruising was just about down to his knee.

Hope yours soon heals.

Thank you.

Yes mine also runs from inner thigh along to the hip and nearly down to the knee.

My first ablation I was very sore for about two weeks with massive bruising. Second ablation very little bruising or pain. Strange. Same doctor.

My husband had a hematoma the size of a goose egg and bruise as you have described. It frightened both of us at the time, but same results from MD - it will reabsorb...and it gradually did. All these variants, though, certainly get our attention! :-)

They called mine a suedo-anyeurysm. I was all shades of blue and purple both groins down to the knees. Never knew what real pain was until then. Mine lasted 10 weeks but I was bleeding inside for 3 days before returning to ER.
