Do you mind me asking, Was the treadmill under the supervision of the Hosital ?
Rather early for treadmill! Have you read the patient leaflet on here, written by people who have had ablation? Useful
No where do I find it?
I think if you put it in the search box it comes up...anyway basically you should be resting completely fir two weeks..than taking it very easy..your heart had been scarred and burnt or frozen...from what I read here most EPs..the people that do it underestimste the recovery time by a mile..xx
What do you expect? You are still supposed to be resting not using a treadmill.
As we say in our fact sheet on recovery AF events can occur as it take three to six months for the heart to recover but pushing yourself this early is unwise to say the least.
This fact sheet needs to be easier to find Bob. There should be a direct link pinned at the side of the screen, not an email you have to search through to find it. Or at least please could you change your post to include it, so that it's right at the top.
Many thanks
Jean
We Bob I was told by my EP that I could whenever I felt like it to take it slow which I did but unfortunately it put me back in Afib
I had no idea this was even a possibility or I would not have done it. I’ve been feeling very well. Thankfully my heart did go back into rhythm several hours later.
I’d love to see that fact sheet I’m new here.
Thank you.
I’d be very surprised if your doctor sanctioned using a treadmill so soon after an ablation. If your groin area is still bruised then spare a thought for what the inside of your heart must look like after hours of prodding, poking, burning or freezing. Suggest you read this before you do something else unwise.
Sorry to hear this. Weren't you advised not to do anything that required exertion? I expect not, honestly there's such a lack of information given out to help people recover.
I think a direct link to this info needs to be pinned to the side of this page, not an email you have to wade through to discover the link. BobD
How are you feeling now?
Jean
My EP told me to use the treadmill as soon as I felt up to it after my ablation. I didn't overdo it, but caused me no issues.
Thanks for your comments unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky. My EP told me the same thing and I’ve been feeling great.
Hang in there. That can happen for short periods and return to NSR. Are you on something like flecainide to help keep you out of AFIB?
I was told the same by my EP after my ablation in 2016. Fortunately I ignored him.
I was guided by the advice on here and took an extremely cautious approach to exercise. Nothing for 3 weeks then only short dog walks at a ridiculously slow pace. I wore a heart rate monitor and was scrupulous in keeping my heart rate low.
I increased my exercise at a similarly glacial pace. I returned to running after 3 months with the same super cautious approach. Since then I've been able to continue running and have actually exceeded my pre ablation level. I race regularly and have had not one episode of AF.
As a competitive runner you get used to managing injury. Sometimes the quickest way to get to where you want to be is to stop and recover.
Some of that might just be luck or coincidence but I can't help but think that allowing time for my heart to heal before stressing it played a part in my successful outcome.
There is plenty of time for exercise. Now is the time for resting.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for your comment! I sure wish I had known about this site before surgery things would have been done differently. All I was told was it take it easy for 3 to 5 days. I was back to work on day 5. I would never knowingly do anything to put my health at risk.
So glad everything worked out for you!! You give me hope!
Thanks Again!
Cryo AB Sept 30 '19. It took me about 4-5 weeks until everything settled down. Flacainide added to meds. Only AF was when I contorted myself eating on couch. 15- 20 min. last May.
