Flecainide - dull pain in left chest?

Hi again,

After my latest bout of AF then heart sticking at 125/130 for a couple of hours after the AF I wen to see my GP. (please see my previous post).

He thought it would be a good idea to try and prevent my bouts of AF by prescribing 50mg of flecainide twice a day.

I have taken just 4 tablets and am finding that after each 50mg I have a dull pain in the left side of my chest plus I feel rather unwell. This lasts about 4 hours after each tablet.

I have done a search on here and I can only find one person that has chest pain after taking flecainide. Should I stop taking it or should I persevere and see how it goes after a week or so?

Just to add, my BP is OK at 123/76. Pulse 69 BPM.

Thanks.

I think you should call your prescribing GP right away. 50 mg twice day is a very low dose. Lots of things can cause chest pain so need to rule out actual chest pain from a cardiac issue. If you are having sweating, weakness, dizziness with the chest pain, I would go to the ER.

As Hoski has said, you really need to let your GP know how Flecainide is affecting you as it doesn't suit everyone.

By the way my pulse once registered normal with my BP machine and also taken at the wrist manually, but it was in fact going hell for leather - too fast to register in my wrist and I was struggling to keep conscious. This was only confirmed once paramedics arrived.

Flecainide is not normally prescribed here in UK by GP but should be at the instigation of consultant level is my understanding. It should not be prescribed to anybody who may have cardiac artery disease and always used to be started in hospital to check for any problems. This seems to be ignored a lot so I would go back to your GP soonest and discuss. It may not be good for you. Do use emergency services if you feel sick or really unwell and get an ecg done at the time. Any chest pain needs to be investigated.
