Went to opticians Saturday. I have got the start of cataracts. Eye sight only seem to bother me after August with all my tablets. Coincidence or tabs? X

Hi Ollie, I too was told that I had the very early signs of cataracts by my opticians. I just saw it as a ploy to keep me going there for regular check ups, which I hadn't bothered to do and had been going every four instead of two years.

Interesting thought though, what tablets are you taking?

Oh my gosh that's a lot of pills! Amiodarone are known to affect the eyes, have you been taking them long?

Have a look at the instruction leaflet with your Amiodarone pills.

Hi,

You don't say your age, cataracts are also - but not exclusively - an aging thing but these days in UK on NHS you almost have to be blind to get the surgery done.

Can't comment on meds, of all your lot the only one I share with you is Bisoprolol. Don't have any of the others on your list. Maybe that's the secret and I've been on all mine for over 9 years now. I had my left eye cataract fixed at 73.

I was 79 when I had my cataracts done in 2013. Glad I had them done then as they are severely rationed now. My wife had her first one done last year after a struggle. The person doing the checks tried to fob her off and we asked to see the senior consultant who agreed they should be done. The one who was stonewalling recently said that the second one did not need doing and our GP looked back at her records and wrote to the consultant.

At 61 I was still in my prime but more medication side effects from Cipro and Fluoroquinolone have taken their toll.

Certain medications will create cataracts. I was on predisnone (sp) for six months and had cataract surgery because of it

I had cataract operation in both eyes last year. Never thought about connection with medication. I have glaucoma as well.

Don't like the sound of that bless you x

I've stopped a lot of my meds because of blurred vision. It has cleared since I stopped. My daughter has steroid induced cateracts and had a replacement lense she was 20 she will have to have the other one done.

Oh bless that's terrible. I was wondering if it was the tabs. Next step talk to my consultant x

Amiodarone is probably the culprit. I had been told for several years that I had cataracts forming but that they were five or six years away from needing surgery. When I started Amiodarone I had floaters almost right away. At my next opticians appointment I was told that deposits had formed on my corneas and that my cataracts had worsened and was referred to an Ophthalmologist. She said that I had also developed floppy iris syndrome. That was as a result of having been prescribed Flowmax to improve my urine flow as I had an enlarged prostate. She asked if I wanted the cataracts done now or to wait another year. I said now.
