No such thing as a stupid question.

I don’t think there is much evidence either way but may be worth going to your pharmacist to ask. My personal view is that it really depends upon other conditions you may have and the relief these treatments may give in order to continue with an active life and what you may be using it for and how much, how often. However, bear in mind that some of the active substance will be absorbed and may affect you.

Personally I use Arnica Gel very occasionally and there have been studies that show that this can be as affective as NSAID creams and gels. Seems to work well enough for me.

I use Arnica for bruises but had not heard of it for pain or Osteoarthritis. I use Rhus Tox for that

I was told by the heart failure nurse not to take ibuprofen or use creams. I did look up Nsaids and seems they are not good for heart patients.

I was told not to use it in any form. Perhaps chat with your pharmacist or doctor for an official answer. Hope this helps.

Just to drop in a contrary opinion I was told by my GP that sparing and occasional use of gel should not be a problem as so little actually gets into the blood stream. I think the critical point is sparing and occasional. Can't recall the last time I did mind.

Oh Blimey! Thanks everyone 👍😉

I was told no to Ibruprofen tablets or gel so my GP prescribed Oruvail gel it has Ketoprofen 2.5% in it, this is on prescription only. I use it occasionally, it is on my repeat prescription. Ask your GP to prescribe it and see how you get on with it.

Just came from my orthopedist. He asked if I was using Volterol gel for knee issues. He said it was ok despite my being on apixaban. Said topical use caused very low nsaid blood level rise. The most positive study I've seen states that standard label, gel treatment raises blood nsaid levels only 6% of comparable oral treatments. I found that reassuring. Am using it, per label instructions, on my knees.
