Ibuprofen and anticoagulant

I've been told I can't use ibuprofen with rivaoxaban, but this morning I leant forward to place my coffee cup on floor beside chair and ping my back went, in the past when it's happened I take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours in between the paracetamol doses, to keep me moving, so my question will it really hurt to do this for a couple days while pain is unbearable? I need to keep on the move to stop my back completely seizing up 😩

If you have AF you should never take NSAIDs like ibuprofen regardless of anticoagulation as it has been linked to being a cause of AF.

Thank you, I never knew that, you are a wealth of knowledge. So it's just paracetamol 😳

Sadly. its all I live on! (Knackered knees). My Gp did say I could use sparingly the gel as little gets into the blood stream. Depends show brave you are?

My Dr. said I can take it (400mg) daily for two days max. for muscular strain, thankfully it worked as its inclined to give a blood nose with its drying effect so its very limited (and spectacular if you sneeze ! )

Its really six of one or half a dozen of the other.

I sympathise and it's sooo easy to do. My GP prescribes co-codamol for short term use and advises paracetamol. I use alternate hot/cold packs. Cold is especially good if you can get to it immediately as it controls swelling.

Ibuprofen should come with a severe warning on the packet for anyone of 55 and over as it has been shown to cause AF. I took the stuff for years for back pain.

Do not take ibuprofen. Apart from anything else it can promote AF.

Can you see your GP for an alternative pain reliever such as codeine?

I'm a coward so I'll stick with good old paracetamol and some ice tight cream. I'll just go with the "pain is good it lets you know you're still alive" thing 😂

Use an ice pack. My chiropractors always encourage ice rather than medication. It will help if nothing else.

I'm on an anticoagulant, Eliquis. My EP said no aspirin or ibuprofen, but I could take Tylenol in moderation. Ask your nurse if that's possible for you! Good luck, hope back gets better soon!

Thank you all, I've gone with ice tight (this is an horse cold clay for after strenuous exercise) and cocodamol, I can quite easily understand how it's addictive, it knocked me out last night 🙊 So I've stuck with paracetamol today and I'll do the knockout drops at bedtime. Feels ok unless I sit down so the bonus to back pain is a clean house from waist height up 😂

My EP allows ketoprofen gel rubbed into the area, but never taken as tablets. For severe pain codeine is the only effective drug but your GP may be hesitant to prescribe unless you can convince him/her you won't misuse it.
