Update after developing AF

After developing AF in November last year (persistent) and when I first found this forum, thought i would give quick update. I had an echocardiogram, nothing much showed up on the results, then I got my first cardioversion which so far has been successful and I feel much better (still taking 5mg Bisoprolol and anti coagulation tablets). I’ve now also had a cardiac stress test where they inject a drug to make your heart race and then a radioactive dye (technetium?) followed by a CT scan. I’ve now had a letter asking me to go back this time for a resting heart technetium test & scan.

Do you think this mean they’ve found a problem?

Not always the case. They may want a set of control results at rest to compare results that weren't taken at rest.

Glad to hear the cardioversion has settled things for now.

Thank you for your response Jedi, I tried to find out more information on it on google but could only get stuff on the stress testing. It’s weird how, every now and then my heart feels like it’s trying to go back into AF, missed beats or a couple of quick ones just for a few seconds, then carries on in normal rhythm.

This sounds like a myoview which requires a stress and a rest study. The 2 are compared to see if the stress results in any regions of reduced perfusion, ie blood supply.

Thank you for your response FibFab. I feel a bit less worried now, I’m hoping that the cardioversion has fixed things for me and as long as I keep taking the meds NSR will continue.

Hi there. I had what sounds like this test a couple of weeks ago. They called it a Myo Perfusion Study. They have to take a second scan of your resting heart to compare with the one where your heart was beating fast. That shows up any differences in the blood supply to your heart muscle when active and when resting. They said it was to show up ischemia/heart disease. This time I had the two scans 6 hours apart. The first time I had the test (3 years ago) I had to come back another day for the second scan. When I got the result, which was good, it meant I could be prescribed Flecainide. You shouldn't have Flecainide if you have ischemia.

Glad to hear you're feeling better and cardioversion is working! That's great.
