Thank you for your experiences on sedation v G.A. I have decided to go with sedation which know the physiologist prefers. my 1st ablation (two years ago) was done under G.A.
I am going in tomorrow at 7.30 and am sitting here here feeling very anxious imagining what it is going to feel like and worrying that I’ll make fuss. I an usually quite resilient but and have had many orthopaedic ops but I think it’s because it’s the heart! My first ablation worked but I know this blanking period can be tough I I keep thinking why am I going through this again I don’t get A/F very often - it’s not that bad but then most of me just wants it gone.
I’m not reallly sure what this post is for but although I’ve got support it feels very lonely at times like this when it’s just in front of me. I didn’t feel anxiety first last time. I know it’s referred to as a prodedure rather than an operation but it feels major to me. I suppose I want to reach out to you who know and understand this pre procedure dread!
I’ll let you know when I’m out the other side.
Many thanks
Ruth.

Hi Ruth...try not to worry too much. I've had ablations under GA and sedation and rather think i prefer sedation. I felt so much better afterwards.
As for the procedure ....like you I feel it IS a big deal ! Remember though that ablations are carried out so often now and you will be well looked after .
Wishing you well and look forward to your report back.
Good luck. The weeks before are full of such worries and apprehension. I am exactly like you (had a few operations) but because it’s the heart it somehow feels so much more scary. My ablation was five weeks ago under sedation and went very well so I hope yours goes as well as mine. X
Best wishes for tomorrow Ruth. It's normal to feel anxious about having an ablation and it's only afterwards that we can say that it wasn't as bad as expected. Let us know how it all goes please.
Wishing you all the very best for tomorrow, don’t worry about making a fuss, I got very emotional with the nurse that did my pre op assessment yesterday over the phone. She reassured me and told me that she has had big strong men cry with nerves before they go in for an ablation.
Sending you courage and wishing you well. Take good care and can’t wait to hear when it’s all over. 😊
We'll be thinking of you tomorrow and look forward to hearing from you!
Nice that you have an early start as waiting can be the worst bit. Sedation can seem as good as a GA and the time can evaporate. They start and seemingly within minutes you surface and all nicely done and dusted.
I’ll have mine today March 14th at 4 in the afternoon for AVNRT, I hope they give me sedation. It’s my first. I’m totally freaked out at he moment, so know that you’re not alone out there.
Hope it all went well and you have a relaxed recovery. I’m due for my ablation in 2 weeks and fully appreciate your anxiety before. Looking forward to you sharing with us how it all went, when you’re ready to. 😊
