Constant lethargic feeling after ablation

Hey guys,

As you may know I had both a Cryo and RF ablation on the 17th May. The first week I felt more energy than I have in years! I was waking up feeling great and didn’t feel tired once. Then after a week I had a very brief AF bout for 30 seconds and a load of ectopics. After this however I feel tired every day all day.

I got up at 0800 this morning and it’s now 1030 I feel like I need to go back to bed. I went to the GP and had bloods done last week and all normal.

I’m at a loss, but it’s really making me feel down in the dumps.i understand this is not an overnight process, but in some ways I feel less energy than before the ablation.

I’m on 20mg Rivoroxaban, 40mg Ompeprazole, 20mg Atorvstatin, 1.25mg Bisoprolol.

I feel like I have this constant dull headache and it just makes you not want to do anything. I check my BP regularly and it’s ok.

I am back to work next week and I’m worried I’m going to be overtly tired. I’m only working 4 hours a day for the first month so at least that’s something.

Anyone had the loss of energy I’m getting? I’m wondering if it’s the fact I’m now taking 40mg of PPI daily as opposed to 20mg since the ablation due to a stomach bleed.

.

Still very early days DD. Ask again in three or four months! EVERYBODY underestimates the recover time for ablation.

Cheers Bob, I’ll wait it out and see how I feel in a few more months.

I'll second what Bob has said.

After my second ablation I felt like you do now for almost two months. The spirit was willing, but the body weak. I did a trip to London with my family and just couldn't walk far and had to keep sitting down. Once I became physically tired, I really found it hard to walk another step. See how you get on going back to work, but don't struggle and please take more time off if you feel you need to.

If I start a day slowly and sit at my PC for hours it makes me lethargic. Get up and ready to go out for the day buy 8am or 9am and I'm far more energetic. You may be the same. Good luck.

Hey Jean,

Thanks for the response. Well I’m doing 10-2 Mon to Fri for four weeks, so I’ll see how that goes. My boss isn’t the nicest of people, and quite unsympathetic generally. She does what welfare she has to to cover herself, but that’s about it.

I’m in a bit of a sticky wicket as I was off for a couple of occasions prior to my ablation only for a few few days where I felt awful, then I was finally signed off by the company Dr and my GP after I kept getting AF nearly daily.

So that has meant I have progressed up the sickness policy stages. There are 5 and I’m now on 4 or will be when I go back. This in itself is a cause of stress as when I go back I’ll be told I can’t go off sick for six months. Of course I won’t if I can avoid it, but you can predict your own health can you?

That's awful and makes me really cross, it is however typical of employers today.

Yes, it is. But as you say it’s typical of employers today. I attempted a meeting at work last week to discuss my return to work. During the meeting my stomach bleed was discussed and my boss and HR representative said “we’ve looked it up and the most common reason for stomach bleeds is stomach cancer”

I was shocked that they would even say such a thing, with no medical training. And the fact they are even looking it up says to me that they are trying to look for ways to get me out of my post.

Did you have a general anaesthetic? It takes up to 6 months to get rid of its effects.

No, I was meant to as I had both Cryo and RF ablation, but upon my arrival at hospital they hadn’t booked an anaesthetist team so my op was going to be postponed. The cardiology came down and spoke to me and I agreed to have it under local instead.

However when I was administered the anaesthetic I could still feel everything! Then they gave me a another dose and still I could feel more than I’d have liked. It was only the next day I was told by the consultant they gave me far more than was normally required and as a result I was kept in overnight as my BP was low and I felt lightheaded.

Yes...sleeping up to 18 hrs a day. Had ablation for SVT and on Rx Sotalol 40mg bid. Six months after ablation was hospitalized for diverticulitis so unsure which or combination causing exhaustion. Lost 30 lbs. Taking diatomaceous earth to keep sigmoid clean for absorption and gained back 10 lbs...hair not falling out any more. I think the fatigue is from Sotalol. Today I skipped Rx and did not need nap and went grocery shopping. So far so good. I know it's risky but if life is just sleeping it's worth trying to skip the daytime dose now and then. I will let EP know on next visit. Discuss with your Doctor ....
