Pacemaker implant - Week 3

I am improving much more now and have driven a little this week, although I have a bit of a problem with the handbrake on my left arm, so I lean over and pull it up with my right arm. I had a concern with the wound a few days ago, as around one edge it had turned red and sore, and so I phoned 111 for advice. After going around the system and being asked the usual questions - Are you confused' etc , I was told a doctor would phone me within 6 hours. I decided instead, to go to my local hospital's Minor Injuries unit who soon sorted it out, with an assurance that is was superficial and a change of dressing. Yesterday, I went to Bristol on the bus, having been invited to take part in a 'Patient Experience' discussion. There were only four of us, and it was helpful and positive. Everyone felt that it was very important to be informed and also that worry and emotional stress around the condition and procedures were addressed.

I told them about this forum and what a great support it is to us all.

Before the meeting I called in at the Cardio dept and managed to get myself an appointment next week for a proper pacemaker check (see Post Week 2).

Hi, glad you are doing better now. It sounds like you are doing a good job of advocating for yourself, something that is very important as we seek the best treatments for ourselves. I hope you continue let us know how thing develope, thanks.

Fairly sure you should not be driving for 6 weeks after an implantation. You should also check with your car insurance company?

Cardio and DVLA told me I only had to wait one week after pm implant before I could drive. I found that very comforting as they must be sure it will be okay. Yes, you do have to inform car insurance company and I have done that.
