Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia??

Hello everyone so over the past month I have been experiencing some weird sensations. I’ll feel a weird sensation come over me, some pressure in my head, palpitations, a little shortness of breath and dizziness. I panic a little then feel the need to get air quickly to calm down. Also when I lie down to sleep at night on my left or right side I will feel a hard pound in my chest which will cause me to catch my breath so when I go to sleep at night I have to lay on my back so I won’t feel those poundings ever so often.

I went to my primary care physician who told me I may be experiencing anxiety but referred me to a cardiologist. The cardiologist completed some bloodwork, EKG, 24 hour Holter monitor and an echocardiogram. My blood work and EKG came back normal, the Holter monitor showed some palpitations I was having and the echocardiogram showed my heart to be in good health.

My cardiologist told me that I may have IST or P.O.T.S. but once I looked up the symptoms on my own they didn’t seem to match those. My heart my resting heart rate is usually between the 80s and 90s not the 100s like described in IST. Also my heart rate does not increase upon standing like described in POTS. I understand the cardiologist goes to medical school for years in order to diagnose these issues but I am not satisfied with the doctor being unsure.

I’ve decided to make an appointment with another cardiologist next week. If that doctor tells me that it looks like IST then I will be assured that is the issue but as of right now I am thinking it’s something else.

Has anyone else experience the symptoms are described? Were you told you had IST or POTS or were you diagnosed with something else?

Hi, no, I've never experienced what you're describing. I did used to have episodes where I would feel as though I were about to pass out. Things would start to darken, but then on the point of losing consciousness it would suddenly go, leaving me shaken but feeling quite normal.

Yes! I had/have exactly what you describe. Exacerbated I notice, by (occasional) alcohol. I was diagnosed with IST a few months ago. Have been on beta blockers since, which have helped a lot. Still get symptoms with an alcoholic drink, or missed meds though. My heart was running up to 150 bpm at times though. But the symptoms you describe are identical.

Hope you get answers soon.

Nicky 🙂
