Ablation

Hi, hope everyone is keeping safe, I’m on the list for an ablation in the UK, the waiting time is a year, has anyone had it done in the last year privately and if so how much did it cost and do you go through the cardiologist?

Kind regards

Lesley

Best guess from recent info about £15k but beware extras as hospital over night costs can be over £500 per night plus any extra tests or treatments add up.

Hi, had mine done privately Jan 2020 through Vitality. Just checked the statement and cost was £10,500 and that included an overnight stay in a private room.

Probably need to add another £1500 or so to that for tests and private consults before and after the ablation.

My two ablations last year were both private and both paid for by insurance . (so I saw the bills but didn’t pay them directly myself) Both came in at under £10k each , with all and everything included. But the insurance company might get better deals.

The private hospitals very happily will give you a quote with no hassle after if you stay with the NHS , so I would ask them

My experience ( Alexandra hospital S Manchester) was really nice, I am super nervous and they made the thing very comfortable

Just as an aside a consultation with a great cardiologist/EP is £150

I have been waiting over a year for mine to be done privately. I think it depends where you live.

Hi Lesleyray. I think times vary from area to area, also how urgent it's considered to be. I'm having an ablation next month having waited two months. I was told it was urgent and if I was put on the non-urgent list it would be more than a year before being seen. Maybe talk to your cardiologist and find out if there's a way of being seen sooner?

I had cause to contact my EP's secretary this week and she told me that since Christmas the only NHS ablations that have taken place are very urgent ones and there have been no clinic follow ups even via telephone!
