Hi all, I was just wondering what products and potions you use for flu symptoms which do not encourage heart problems please. I've got a dose of the dreaded Man flu complete with temp and aching joints....
Man flu & high Temp: Hi all, I was just... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Man flu & high Temp
Paracetamol . hot lemon and a warm bed.
I make thyme tea. I make a mug of it in the morning and drink or gargle with it throughout the day.
One heaped teaspoon of dried thyme in a mug, pour on boiling water and leave for a while to steep (15 mins) and then strain. I use a tea strainer.
Add a teaspoon of honey and some lemon
You can either gargle with this (if your throat is sore) or drink it. I do both. In between if your throat is really sore gargle with coconut oil. Let it melt in your mouth and then gargle.
Eat plenty of garlic and oranges.
I don't generally take anything else. If your body is aching it's telling you to rest.
Hope you're soon better.
Jean
Sympathies - I have woman-flu at the moment and take 2 paracetamol four times daily - I like the soluble type. This lowers temperature and helps with aches and pains. Warm drinks and a good book complete the treatment.
Don’t touch any OTC cough preparations such as Covonia which can get the AF going - gargle with salt water or try honey and warm drinks.
Take care (and paracetamol) and get better soon Dave x
I use paracetamol, hot lemon juice and honey. Also take Echinacea and Vit C to try to prevent colds.
Paracetamol and thyme cough sweets.
Nothing makes any real difference although paracetamol will reduce your temperature. Avoid anything containing decongestants or claiming to dry up secretions
Paracetamol is about the only thing I can take after a stupid desperate turn to Sudafed late last year because I didn't read the bloody label.
As above. Also inhale teatree oil a couple of drops in hot water and gargle with ditto (but don't swallow as not advised for ingestion.) It's antibacterial and anti viral so it makes me think I'm doing something
Oregano oil capsules or steam inhalation with a couple of oregano oil drops in the water. These are particularly useful if a cough comes on. To avoid in future a high level of vitamin d and NAC - n acetyl cysteine. The latter is also very good for a cough as it makes the mucous more fluid. Even if you do get a virus the symptoms are much reduced. I think I had a cold last week but sneezed very little and did not feel unwell. You have to take the NAC for several months prior to flu season. I have read it is a blood thinner as well so better to check if OK to take with anticoagulant.
I take Gan Mao tea from a Chinese herbalist. it has a cleansing effect. Lots of water and rest.
I have some menthol crystals. I put a good pile of them on a saucer next to where I am sitting, and next to my bedside. That can easily add an extra hour to a shift of sleep. Wheb I wake, I sip water to moisten mouth and throat, then gargle + spit rather than trying to swallow and irritate. Oh, yes, the vitamin C. See the videos by Suzanne Humphries. Take it to tolerance level, which goes up when you have the flu.
