Omeprazole, Gaviscon, Rantidine( Zantac)

Always check with gp or pharmacist.

Thank you good advice, the Doc gave me both Omeprazole and Digoxin but I read that they have serious interactions

My specialist put me on Omprazole , he said it is fine with Digoxin. I always take the Heart pills first.

Thank you, I must say that it is comforting to know someone else has been prescribed this combination, I am sure the Doc's do the best risk assessment of each individual case, I was just a bit worried that my Doc had forgotten that I was on Omeprazole when starting me on Digoxin. It may be the case that its best to take Omeprazole at least 4 hours after the Digoxin (not 100% sure though).

I take it before but I don’t think it is such a huge concern . My specialist told me to take linseed seeds( flax) to settle acidity , it was SO foul, even a donkey would refuse it .. We make too much of everything and take too much on board. Hope you get sorted , sometimes it is not Digoxin which is the cause ,more often it is us worrying incessantly.

Yes I agree worry is often far worse, but we live in a time when here is so much available on the internet that it is difficult not to go down all sorts of false paths. Thats where this forum can help and give a realistic and factual view of things.

It can sometimes make us too aware of all the possible problems we could or could NOT face .. one can just get obsessed ,there are many out there far worse off than us.

Always best to check with your Pharmacist as they are best placed to know how all your medications will interact.

Ask your pharmacist. That is what they are there for

Thank you, yes I am going to, just wanted to know what others are taking and what they think of it.

Ask pharmacist. Re linseed you can buy it powdered and have with cereal. Always buy cracked linseed otherwise or it scoots through untouched! Didn't know it helped with reflux etc

Have gone back to fybogel, less like hamster food!

Thank you, what do you take linseed for? I have not heard of fybogel what is it?

You could also check the drug interactions sites. They sometimes give different results (grrr). Be sure to type in ALL your meds including vitamins. These are the four I use:

drugs.com/drug_interactions...

webmd.com/interaction-check...

rxlist.com/drug-interaction...

reference.medscape.com/drug...

You could print out anything interesting, and discuss it with your pharmacist -- my experience is that if you catch them when they are not busy, they enjoy this kind of work.

Thank you, I have been looking on these sites but they appear to be too cautious (better safe than sorry though). I will discuss with a pharmacist just in case. I have had a few other suggestions to ask about as well.

Best advice I had over 30yrs ago, as I suffered quite badly from acid reflux and my throat was constantly burning etc... and that advice came from a doctor I was listening to on BBC Radio 2 and he said eat the inside skin of a Green Banana. So you get some Green Bananas, as I did, not the ones in supermarkets but if you live in places like Southall, Hounslow, where there are a lot of Asian/African fruit and veg shops and that’s the best place to buy them. They’re very bitter to taste, but you peel them and scrape the inside of the skin and just eat until your problem stops which was very quick I remember and I have never had the problem since.

I take Ranitidine and that seems to work but ask your Pharmacist in case you are taking other medications that may not be compatible.

Thank you I will do, I have heard on one of Dr Gupta's uTube videos that Ranitidine was a good alternative to Omeprazole.

I am currently in this battle. My cardiologist made me promise I would fight it, because I am thin and the oesophagus passes near the vagus nerve. I tried Omeprazole powder mixed in water and boy did it hurt!! On researching it I was not happy, though I guess a quick course that works is fine before it becomes addictive. I persuaded the doctor I could try the natural routes before considering strong medicine like Omeprazole. First, careful self observation and self diagnosis in consultation with a friendly nurse. It is well known that gut pain can have at least three causes: too much acid, too little acid, sharp rotting objects like pills that get stuck, so creating soreness. I had good reason to plump for too little acid + pills stuck. So, what to do? Obviously there is soreness, and even normal foods aggravate. I have tried some obvious and less obvious culprits. I have also tried sticky soothing food like fromage frais.

The beauty of this approach is that I am cooperating with medical people, I have the time and freedom to self-experiment, and nothing I am doing is dangerous or against medical advice. I am under pressure to be active and not give up because failure here could worsen my heart problems.

Thank you for your reply, thats good that you have found a way ahead that your happy with, hope you continue to improve. My condition is different in that I have been on Omeperazole for 10 years and it has worked fine for acid reflux, however it does limit the amount of essential vitamins and mineral that get absorbed into the body. For example you can take as much Magnesium you like, it will not get to where it is needed if you do not have enough acid in your stomach, hence magnesium deficiency. Now I have recently been prescribed Digoxin and Omeprazole enhances the effect of Digoxin and can support Digoxin Toxicity which can be fatal as it can cause Ventricular problems - Hence my quandary and my question to see what others do. I will be discussing my situation with a Pharmacist and I now have some suggestions to see if they are worth trying.

Ugh. I see your problem. Now you have a plan of action with a list of things to discuss. The beauty of pharmacists is that if the first one is helpful, you can always try another. I hope you find some answers and can report back.

Shcldavies in reply toILowe

Yes thats a good point, the pharmacist will provide some advice on the chemical interactions. Hopefully the quantities of Digoxin and Omeprazole I have been prescribed do not present a significantly greater risk.

Thank you for the advice, I will talk to the pharmacist but will not change anything until I see the Cardiologist next week. How long have you been taking Omeprazole with Digoxin.

Thank you, I am interested in the interaction between Digoxin and Omeprazole as the Omeprazole can increase the chance of Digoxin toxicity which can cause dangerous vernacular rhythms.
