Hello,

i have been put on amiodorone 200mg but i also take digoxin 250mg I have read up about the fact that if you are taking these 2 drugs together that digoxin dose should be stopped or at least halved because amiodorone increases the effects of digoxin significantly. My Doctor never mentioned it to me.

Then go ask your doctor and tell him what you think. GPs don't know everything. In fact where AF is concerned many know very little. We here are not trained to judge although there are time I would like to. lol

I took these two drugs together for a few weeks and the Digoxin made me feel dreadful (was already taking Amiodarone).

Bob is right, you need to speak to your GP and voice your concerns.

Hello

I saw an article in "What Doctors Don't Tell You" (Page 15, Feb 2015 edition) about Digoxin (marketed as Lanoxin). It apparently increased the risk of death by 71% in a trial of nearly 15,000 people with AF, double the rate of those on other drugs. the reference given is: CircArrhythmElectrophysiol,2014;doi:10.1161/CIRCEP.114.002292

There was another similar article in the July edition, Ref: EurHeartJ,2015:pii:ehv143

I hope that is some use to you.

Best wishes,

Tony.

I have refused to take either of these drugs in my case the side effects are far worse than the condition.

I was prescribed Amioderoneto me when first diagnosed with AF , ten years ago,

Ok it does control it, but it's only meant for short term use, I was taking it for several years , oblivious to the awful side effects it was having in my body, .my thyroid was the first to be diagnosed, now taking Lexo forever,

My hair and nails suffered to, and my eyes and skin became light sensitive.

Although I have been off it now for over two years the side effects, are still with me,

You should also have regular liver function tests when in Amioderone, as it can also damage you're liver.

Sorry it's negative but, in my opinion when this medicine is prescribed,

The patient should do some research as to the side effects, or ask the cardiologist

My EP doctor no longer prescribes it.,

Not what you're looking for?
