I know that there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum & would appreciate some advice please. 6 days ago I started taking 50mg of Flecanide twice daily at the recommendation of my EP who said it’s my best chance of reducing my severely enlarged atrium? Has anyone experienced a reduction in LAE when using Flecanide or anything else? I cannot find any evidence that it reduces LAE anywhere, any advice would be great. Also, if anyone has experienced any side effects whilst taking this drug I would be thankful if you can share any stories?
TIA x

Flecainide is an anti-arrhythmic drug, its main purpose is to stop arrhythmias and restore normal rhythm. Im assuming your atria is enlarged due to either over exercising( like marathon) OR you have had an arrhythmia like a fib out of control. This can lead to muscle enlargement as the heart( muscle) is giving it all its got to pump your blood. If the normal rhythm is maintained and the heart doesnt have to work so hard, it may decrease in size. Does any of that sound like your situation?
It’s not the drug itself which will reduce the size of your LA which often results from long term AF or endurance exercise so the assumption is that If the AF can be converted back to long term NSR, and with rate control which is sustained then there is a good chance your LA will reduce back to normal size.
Yes there are side affects from Flecainide but normally from much higher doses
