Slurred speech and confusion

Just noticed a couple of hours ago that the ambulance crew wrote on a form (following their visit yesterday morning at 0330 when I had AF ) that I was confused and had slurred speech. Very worrying. Am trying to see doctor later today.

I don't think I'd be exactly 100% at 330 in a morning waking up in AF. They can't have considered it too serious or they'd have insisted you attended ED.

I agree with Jedi, Sam. There's absolutely no way they would have left you at home if they'd suspected you'd had a stroke, but if talking to your doctor will help calm your mind then do that.

Please let us know how you get on.

False Alarm! Have just seen the doctor who said the small circles on the form meant *not* confused, *not* slurred speech etc. Apologies to you and everyone who posted on this, particularly given the very thoughtful replies.

Sam, you've made me laugh, don't worry as it's the sort of thing we all do. Hopefully your mind's at rest now.

Thank heavens for that! It appears it was them that left you confused!

A TIA has to be a possibility. You mentioned that the ambulance crew were insistent you saw the GP yesterday Did they say why?

Right now, anticoagulation seems appropriate to me if there are no contraindications

in reply to

They didn’t mention TIA or stroke or give any explanation really. They said I should not go to work but I did. They may have decided to err on the side of caution.

I agree that this may be of concern, but that was then and this is now. It has been a transitory event and as others have said, a stroke was probably not suspected. The good thing, when things go wrong, is that one's condition may be taken more seriously and treatment may be speeded up. This may also, as Hidden has said, focus your thoughts about anticoagulation.

Well, I will see what the doctor -one I haven’t seen before- thinks about the anticoagulation question. Thanks for your reply .

I agree with jedimasterlincoln and jeanjeannie50 . As I told you earlier I wake up nearly every night in the middle of the night and I am not at all coherent. For me it has happened for years and I understand what you are going through.

I think it highly unlikely that it is more serious but as recommended before you really need some reassurance from a professional and the sooner the better.

Try and keep calm I know it isn’t easy but it is so important as anxiety can only make it worse for you.

We are all feeling for you and your fear but all we can offer right now is empathy.

Hope you can see a doctor soon.

Have now got an appointment with a doctor if I can get there on time. Thanks for being so supportive.

They probably noted it down,as a precaution. Im sure I would have been much the same as you that time of night!

Stress to your doctors staff that crew insisted you see someone asap. They do keep some spare emergency appointments in most practices.

Whatever it may or may not have been,it has passed.

On my GPand EP notes it says 'possible Tia" "probable" "suspected"... And the Stroke consultant wrote" probably a vado vagal attack" .....so ???!!!!

Anyway,I was glad to go on anticoagulants and happy to stay on forever.Bleed versus stroke? No contest for me!

Take care xxx

I will mention the TIA when I see the doctor. I was anxious, had taken an extra Sotalol and was woken in the middle of the night. I hope this explains their observation. Thanks for your reply.
