New Drug Regime

My EP said today that we need to take an aggressive approach to get my AF/tachycardia under control. I was very nervous when he mentioned Amiodarone as I have read so many horror stories about it but he said he will only keep me on it for a couple of months. I’m also going onto Atenolol and staying on Digoxin (and stopping Sotalol). I’m now 8 1/2 weeks post ablation and still have some inflammation but if we can get my heart to behave that will have a better chance of healing. I’ll see him again in 4 weeks and he’ll reassess where I’m at. I’m hoping not to have to go back into the cath lab but what will be, will be.

Oh my- wishing you all the best in getting things settled- remember I did the nasty drug two months as well/ Blessings

Not what you would prefer to hear Kaz, but your EP sounds as if he knows what he's doing to get your heart to perform properly....naturally we all will want the new regime to work quickly and effectively for you so fingers crossed....big time!

I’m on Amiodarone for 16 days today. I had a huge 24 hour dose intravenously and then came home with 200 ml 2x a day. Yesterday he lowered me to 200 ml 1x a day. I gave him a hard time when he wanted to put me on it but so far I’m ok. On December 10, I’m going back and hope he will reduce me again. They will be checking my thyroid and my liver at that point

I know it’s hard to think about taking this terrible drug that works so well but is so bad for you, but hopefully it will be short term and they will be checking your organs to make sure there are no ill effects.

Thanks- I have to be off the Sotalol for 3 days before I start. I’m having a loading dose too - 200mg 3 times a day for a week, then twice a day for a week then once a day 😕

Well Kaz,I think they use this drug with caution and not lightly, and with the time limit set, hopefully it will do the trick and get you set back up again.Im sure you are nervous,I would be,but think longterm and keep your chin up.im sure they will be monitoring you closely with all thats gone on.

Best wishes,sendinglove xxx
