After lots of tests and conversations with the EP I agreed last week to go for the pace and ablate offered. I have been offered a date on the 26th of this month. I thought that I would have to wait for six weeks and so felt quite shocked when I received my admission date today. He thinks that I will have a good chance of relief of this terrible breathlessness, which only happens when I move from my chair. It will be a dual chamber pacemaker which will increase my chances of success. I will post again if it is successful.
Thank you all for your support whilst researching which was the best route to go down.

Three cheers! Progress has been a long time coming and now there's not a long wait either. I hope it will be a huge step forward for you. Looking forward to hearing all about it.
I can now say having just the pacemaker has made a wonderful and significant difference. I was very hesitant but now I have experienced the normal life again I hope my post will help others to go forward. My EP was very good and discussed all my fears and did not make me feel I was wrong.
Hello. Yesterday I had to AV node ablation done after having the pacemaker a month ago and I can say the difference was instantaneous . It was pain free and even the holes in my groin are not sore. I am free of the breathlessness and tiredness and feel years younger. My ankles are now going back to their previous size and my weight dropped 3lb overnight. He hoped that the results would be significant and they are. I still feel some shortness of breath but as I have spent the last 3years tied mostly to the house and unable to walk this is expected and is tied to being unfit and not AF. I hope that my experience will help other to decide. The best thing is no drugs except Apixiban.
I will post again after the new year when I hope an update will be good news.
I don`t think I was fully convinced but as I had no option because AF is not curable after going into persistent mode. I could feel the difference straight away but needed a few days to really believe the huge difference to me and I haven`t even got up to the ablate part. The best part after the improvement is not having to battle with medication!
