As far as I can see, this study did not control for atrial fibrillation, nor anticoagulant and statin use. Neither were commonly used (ACs for stroke prevention in AF and statins for stroke prevention) at the start of the study. We all know that ACs hugely reduce the risk of stroke in AF. The role of statins as anti inflammatories in reducing stroke is being explored, according to my cardiologist.

I will be continuing my Primal / mediterranean fusion diet with a large dose of a statin. Interesting study but flawed gender related conclusions in my opinion
