Holiday shock

Have been well controlled on drugs for last 18 months. We are on holiday in France In our campervan. Suddenly last night an unwelcome visitor - definite AF , HB 120/130 but gentle - I am aware of it. Haven’t managed to revert spontaneously yet. I am so fed up as it makes me feel so exhausted. I just need a hug Had my birthday here at the end of August 75 now - hope this isn’t permanent

Oh bless you, do hope it reverts very soon and you can resume your holiday to the full. In the interim rest and keep as calm as you can. X

Sorry to hear this Patti and certainly know how you must be feeling. So annoying for you! Sending you a big healing hug that will put you back into sinus rhythm as soon as you get it.

I've had this on holiday as well. ...also when I had been clear for 18 months !

Stay as calm as you can and don't overdo things. Have you a beta blocker that you can take ? It's surprising what you can get used to after a few days.

Are you due to return home soon ?

Here's hoping you revert very soon

Sandra

What a bummer pattiann, such a shame to have your birthday treat spoilt this way! I assume you are not there on your own so hopefully driving is not a problem. I guess you have two options, ride the storm or come home a bit earlier than planned. The same thing happened to me once, but I was able to take prescribed PiP medication but it sounds as if that option is not available to you. One of the big benefits of having a camper van is that you can start to move towards home and then reconsider your plans once all the cyber hugs have done the trick! Whilst episodes of AF are a shock to the system, very often people continue to function, albeit in a modified way so maybe you will adapt if the hugs don’t work, but here’s another one to add to the list (((((( pattiannj )))))). Good luck......

Bad luck. Horrible any time but so much worse when you're out of the country. Hope you revert soon and can enjoy the rest of your holiday

How unlucky. Rest up and breathe!

I have heard that French health care system is amongst the best on the planet. ? EHIC ? Health Insurance. Make use of a good system while we still can. All the best to you!

Like you in campervan in France. Have been having 2 or 3 episodes a week since we got here but luckily never go higher than 75-80. Was given Flecainide as a PIP before we came away but not doing a lot for me. I too will be 75 in a couple of weeks and going home on 25th to another 4 day monitor. Do hope it has passed now.

I live in France part of the year. The health care is pretty good here. You can go and see any GP and pay between 25-30€ for the consultation. He can prescribe you some AF control drugs if you don't have any or recommend other actions like a local A&E Dept or cardiologist. It all depends where you are. If it is very rural, you'll have to travel to the nearest major town to find a cardiologist. Good luck.

I live here in France, if you feel you need help go to the local hospital a and e....there won’t be the queues you get in U.K., ...they have a bit like U.K. a nurse to assess you , and you go thru pretty much right away....and get seen.....you will have to produce the European health card to get your money back......it’s all very efficient. You won’t get to see a private cardiologist straight away as they are booked in their own practices so going to the A and E is the quickest way to be seen, and they are very relaxed and won’t think you are making a fuss. They will monitor you and give meds if needed to lower it and send you on your way, they will do a full blood test , wait till that’s back, before they let u go, and give you the print out, so you will get A handy MOT blood test, it covers everything!

Hope you soon revert it’s horrid being in motorhome, I know the feelings no, mine happened in motorhome in Spain......in fact we’ve sold it and bought a caravan as I felt we needed a car after my episode as you feel kind of stuck in a motorhome with no car and I think that adds to the stress.

Fingers crossed for you,

Sue

Thank you all for the fantastic support. Have only just got the replies as my phone hasn’t functioned well for some reason. Luckily I am back in NSR after 36 hours but I must say it was very reassuring to hear about a&e in France as I was beginning to panic about the best thing to do. The staff on our campsite are brilliant & would have helped. We have a motorbike on our Motorhome & now I feel better I can see the humour of arriving at a&e on that !!! Don’t worry we’d take a taxi. Thank you again everyone
