I have suffered from Restless Leg Syndrome for many years. About two years ago it became much worse and I tried many different alternative treatments - you name it, I tried it. None of them worked. I went to my GP who offered some medication, but the side effects were considerable, and as I am already taking meds for a heart condition, I was reluctant to take more. But ...... I had not slept properly for months and felt desperate. So before taking the drugs, I went to an acupuncturist as a last resort. From the very first treatment my legs improved and now, three months later, I am free of it completely. I am sleeping very well and all the twitching and burning has stopped. I am so very grateful to be cured of this, that I wanted to pass it on.
My restless legs are cured: I have... - Atrial Fibrillati...
My restless legs are cured
Very pleased your suffering is now history but before anyone gets too excited about acupuncture it needs a highly experienced person for it to have a good chance of working. Even then a lot is down to 'luck'.Two members of my family have had the treatment for different types of problems...no results at all .
Hi, Low iron and or anemia is a culprit when it comes to restless leg syndrome. I was just diagnosed
Yes - This was my problem too with restless legs. The iron seemed to be okay according to my blood work after I was treated for anemia, but the iron I had was not getting into my muscles. Now that I take iron supplements, I seem to be fine.
I did have anemia - 8.4 Now it is around 12.
Wow Melleray what a great story. Right now I am suffering with weakness in my legs 24-7 when I walk balance is off been to neurologist and was told probably after effects of chemo and amiodarone. I’m at my wits end don’t even want to go out without taking my old lady cane. Someone did mention that acupuncture if applied to the right nerves it may regenerate my feeling. After reading your story that sealed it going to give it a try. Thank You
Mellaray and others. I have used acupuncture off and on for various ailments and for me it DOES work. There also may be variances in the practitioners skill as well that may come into play for those for whom it did not work. My afib was not greatly helped by it, but some calming / lowering of heart rate. I dislocated a shoulder in a bicycle accident when i was 19. Always stiff and made creaking sounds and sore depending on what I did. Went in for a massage at age 32 and she said I could help you on your shoulder as she felt the "crunchies" and said it would hurt. I said hurt away and it DID help. She said that most of the damage is under the scapula where of course she couldn't massage and suggested acupuncture. I did. They put in needles into that and other areas and burned the "moxa" root on top. After 2 treatments I've been fine ever since - aged 62 now. Acupuncture works in my understanding on these two basic principles:
1. Needle in - body says "I've been cut" and directs specific healing energies/ processes to the area stimulated by the needle.
2. With the moxa root burning it generates a mild heat but the body says, "not only have I been cut, but also burned" So it sends additional healing processes , etc.. to that area. I'm a firm believer that it is an important tool in medicine. I urge all to consider trying it.
Remember - it may take multiple sessions to help, but most will feel something after a few sessions if not the first one.
