I was originally diagnosed with heart failure after having fluid on the lungs. This was attributed to dilated cardiomyopathy that was initially thought to be caused by AF. By the time I got to see an EP it had become apparent that I wasn’t experiencing PAF (my arrhythmia was not irregularly irregular and my pulse rate did not shoot up for no reason). Other than for the fluid on the lungs I was asymptomatic, as are many people with AF. I’m presently limited a little by my medications but not as badly affected as many seem to be. I’ve had one ablation and waiting for my heart to stabilise again before having an ICD and AV ablation next month. The hope is that once I can get my ventricles beating normally again the dilated cardiomyopathy may resolve itself and my EF get back to a more normal level.
I hope this helps.
