Failed cardioversion

I had a failed cardioversion two months ago and had amiodarone added to my list of medications to help. I had another cardioversion yesterday and although it worked this morning the AF is back. I have put a call in to the cardiologist but am now feeling quite disheartened. He did think it would not last but wanted to see how much better I would be with the possibility of an ablation sometime in the future. I am now waiting to hear what the next step is. It is hard to know what makes me feel worse the AF or the medication. Has anyone else had this and what was the next step?

Cardioversion is never guaranteed but as you say can offer incite into the wisdom or not or trying ablation. I wish you well.

Thank you. Now have to wait to hear from the cardiologist. Feel a bit lost with it all at the moment.

I recently had a cardioversion which lasted a bit over 24 hrs., and then back to afib. As my symptoms while in afib are not bad, I have decided to manage my afib with rate control and anti-coagulation only (no rhythm control - flecainide, etc.). Good luck!

Thanks. Good luck with managing it yourself and I look forward to hearing how you get on. I am now being fitted with a 24hr heart monitor again and then back to see cardiologist next Thursday so will see what he recommends. He is a very serious man but very thorough and caring so I do trust him although a smile would be nice occasionally. My blood pressure is rather high so I think that affects his decision.

My cardio version failed, too. Since, two ablations and I’m off meds. Feel fine....some water retention in ankle.😌

I totally understand how you're feeling. Very similar story- just home from GP, with confirmation that last Friday's cardioversion(2nd) has failed. Lasted just over 6 days, same length of time as first one back in Feb in spite of being on Dronedarone this time round. Gone from being ecstatic this time last week (was just so good to feel normal again!) to feeling utterly fed up and at a loss as to where I go from here. It really starts to get to you.Another referral on it's way to EP see what options available. You're not alone- will be interested to hear how you get on.
