Has anyone had to have closure of sec... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Has anyone had to have closure of secundum asd.knew I had from childhood.since echocardiogram at 58 now know my af is as result of this.
I had this procedure in 2010 after having had a small stroke out of the blue. and was not on anticoagulants. Mine was small to medium in size but the cardiologist who was very experienced thought it wise to do it .It is a keyhole procedure .I felt marvellous after it .If you are offered it I suggest you accept .I am a bit of a scaredy cat but this was ok for me.
Thank you.that is reassuring.i am by nature scaredy cat too.
my af came from 'another place' from likely from a bodged diagnosis re. thyroid .Hole in the heart came from I know not where .I had got through a pretty strenuous life with no problems plus children so.......But it WAS thought the TIA was due to the hole .I am now on Apixaban and previously was on Warfarin so hopefully am safe now.
Had always known had hole in heart but mum was told wouldn't affect me till in my seventies.perhaps should have had follow up but at least am now on edoxeban and bisoprolol and awaiting appointment for transoesophageal echo.after that will be referred for appropriate intervention
good luck Redwing. Do ask if you think I can be of further help.I had a camera via throat for cardiologist to see the back of my heartHe did not want to do the procedure without that info..A specialist cardio. did this in the same hosp. Maybe this was individual to me I do not know.
