Referral to ablation.

Hi all,

How long on average does it take from referral to ablation? I was diagnosed in May. The AF nurse said I'd be referred for cardiac mri and referral for ablation about a month ago. I've not heard anything since. I'm 35 and liverpool based.

Thanks

So.

Generally six months to a year I would guess but varies from centre to centre. If you have the odd £15k then maybe much sooner.

15k?! I didn't realise it was that expensive! It will deffo have to be on the NHS then. :)

JC 999 is correct. From my experience I can tell you that the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital are very efficient. P M me if you want to confirm any bits about what to expect .

Thankyou for your response. I've not even received any letters/notifications of any consultations yet so it's very early days. My AF nurse said she'll refer me for cardiac mri and ablation. That was a month or so ago. Have you had ablation at broad green? Are they good?

Thanks in advance

Al.

Yes. Do call it Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital as it is separate from Broadgreen Hospital. Use L14 3LB for Sat Nav. It is ghastly to find but handy for the station.

It is rated as a centre of excellence. My EP, Dr Derrick Todd was rated one of the best in the UK in a recent survey of doctors. You will not find a nicer doctor anywhere.

The care and facilities are excellent. Patients are given single rooms in the unit which is across the path from the main hospital.

Hi I live in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and we have a 12 week referral to treatment target and I had my ablation exactly 12 weeks from seeing the EP consultant. Hope it isn’t too long until your procedure 😀

I'm in Scotland too but because I've opted for GA my EP says it's a longer waiting time - 22 weeks approx. If you're concerned phone and check with the nurse that you have actually been put on the waiting list. It's just a fact of life that sometimes people fall through the net & are waiting for appointments when they've been 'lost' in the system. I would hope that as you're so young you'll get priority. Good luck

I didn’t realise you waited longer for GA, the local was ok but uncomfortable and painful at times but all in all would do it again under local. Hope yours goes well Petrified. 👍

Saw the EP beginning of July, ablation date under general anaesthetic end of Aug, in West Midlands.

Don't forget there are also whiston and St Helens hospitals which you could be referred to You could phone appointments at Liverpool and ask if there are sooner ones at either of these
