Keeping your cool in the warmer weather

With temperatures sky rocketing, heat stroke can affect the vulnerable, leading to heart problems. If you have elderly relatives or neighbours please check that they are prepared for the hot weather. You could really make a difference. For tips on how to cope in hot weather visit: ow.ly/3PxF302q7BV

Best tip I know when it's hot and sultry at night is to take an old fashioned flat cotton sheet and wet it under the tap.

Wring it out until as much water as possible out of it.

Then lie under it on top of the bed, and feel fantasticallly cool, They do this in several tropical countries, and of course it's how a fridge works.

You will wake up with the sheet dry by the way

Try it...

Be well

Yes that is a good old one.

However about 7 years ago I bought a portable air conditioning unit. One of the best investments made. Relatively speaking they are probably cheaper now (well Amazon sellers have put up their prices as we are in the middle of a heatwave!!!!

Thank you Rachel. My husband now seems to be taking notice of what he was told and is drinking more water. he does not have a heart condition, he does have gallstones and spent some time in hospital, he had an infection in his liver and gall bladder, plus the jaundice. Just in time it seems, at least now he wont be struck of a doctor's register.

I hope you are well.

Did anyone see the Trust me I'm a Doctor last night - covered heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Evidently one of the best ways to cool quickly is to put your hands in ice cold water. I use a long, neck gel cool pack and we have a ceiling fan for the bedroom and couldn't survive without it. Being on the coast there is usually always a cool breeze so I don't think we have had temps exceeding 25-26C, although that is hot enough for me to get an increase in symptoms.

Really don't fancy the wet sheet and never been that hot in this country anyway.
