Reveal LINQ ILR

Implanted on June 14, 2018. Simple procedure, 2 stitches removed a week later and 2 steri-strips placed. I’m 55 years and realize I don’t have the firm breast tissue as I did when younger and I think the device has moved downward. Reading other posts, I realized my continued soreness and general discomfort may not be ‘normal’. There’s no redness to indicate infection yet my husband cannot even hug me. Anyone else experience this level of discomfort?

Hi Judy, I sympathise! I too have a Medtronic linq implanted, although (for reasons I won’t bore you with) it wasn’t as straightforward for me and my scar was much longer, more than 12 stitches. After a couple of weeks, though, it was healing up really well, and the scar area was looking fine. What worried me was a sharp hot pain around the actual implant - no redness or actual heat, just pain. Always when I touched it, often when I didn’t. Certainly no hugging or stretching was happening here!

I hadn’t been led to expect this, but when I mentioned it at a follow up appt, the cardio technician said it’s really normal, as there are some significant nerves and muscles in that area that can be affected. I wasn’t overly convinced - I honestly thought something was going wrong, but sure enough, by about 6 weeks after the procedure, it was perfectly fine and I’d forgotten I ever had any pain :)

I hope that’s reassuring... my understanding is that it’s most unlikely to be anything worrying - though of course, any sign of redness or infection, as you said, would need quick attention.

But in any case I think it’s always a good idea to ask someone medical, if only for peace of mind. If you’re not due a cardiology appt, do you have a number for the clinic that you can ring and explain/ask for advice? Or if not, then maybe a nurse or GP at your practice can have a look?

Good luck - hope it eases really soon - do let us know how you get on x

Hi Judy. I would follow advice already given about asking your doctor, But as your procedure was not too long ago it will take some time for your own tissue to grow around your device. Then it won't be so movable. It's easy to forget that internal healing of tissue (muscles, nerve endings, etc) can take longer to heal than the incision that we can see. So give it time, treat the area gently and ask your doc any questions you need to for peace of mind. Take care. irina
