I was admitted last Monday with AF and HR of 200 which cont for 12 hours with palpitations, breathless and chest pain
They wanted to send me home as soon as I returned to sinus level but I refused as I’ve not only had several AF occasions but I also suffer from dizziness, blackouts and unable to walk far due to breathlessness and chest pain and nobody has listened to me or done anything about in in the last 2 years.
so they did an Echocardiogram which showed left ventricular obstruction, SAM in 3 chambers, Basel septal hypertrophy, and moderate Mitre regurgitation - which is all caused through high HR and AF. And more importantly DEHYDRATION
They have fitted me with the ILR which is a small chip under the skin over my heart which collects data and daily downloads to a box by my bed and then sends off to the consultants for up to 3 years
I wanted to say to everyone you know your own body and when something isn’t right STAND your ground and tell them how it is and how your life has changed because of ………

I wish I had been more insistent on why they put my husband as zero risk for stroke when we went to A and E with a really high heart rate like yours . He had an ablation in 2017 which had obviously dtoooed working looking at the ecg he was wired up to and all they did was send him home with amprimil he had a severe stroke two days later in July just gone . I could kick myself for not questioning it more
My ILR showed up my heart stoppages that had failed to show up on ECG and Holters. The syncope faints that it showed earned me a pacemaker and I haven't looked back.
That’s what I’m hoping for as an outcome. Too often when I have AF im left with a high HR for up to 8,9,12 hours which is stressful and not good for the heart.
How long on the ILD were you before having a pacemaker fitted?
Ahah! That's another story! I misread the instruction book for the ILR and sited the reporting m/c in the wrong place so my daily reports did not show up; when I went for a routine check 9 months later Clinical Physiology said all's well.... Really!! I said so please check the ILR saved record for a date I had noted down;
Oops they said your heart stopped for ten seconds....
another date.. Oops they said - it stopped for 14 seconds!
That was a Friday and on Tuesday I got my pacemaker!
Obviously the daily reporting had not happened and I challenged their protocols - and found that they did not follow non-reports so I could have been dead (or have a faulty ILR or reporting M/c)
That was 7 years ago and I and my PM are still going strong. I queried whether current delays would interfere with a replacement when it is due but was assured that replacements are prioritised.
I have a pacemaker because I was having long pauses and fainting. Not happened since I’ve had the pacemaker.
I don’t have continuous monitoring, some do. Used to be seen 6/12 monthly in clinic for pacemaker downloads and a chat about what it showed.
Since lockdown I have a home gizmo that I’m instructed to use now once a year to send download via airwaves. That’s fine, the clinic knows what’s happened but I will only be contacted if there is a problem. I’m not happy about this and have told them so. If I have concerns or feel something is not right I can contact them and send extra downloads. I would be much happier with a definite response to each download.
