Have had two cardioversions, prior to the second the Consultant prescribed Amiodorone and I have been taking it for about 10 months, on last weeks visit he was generally pleased with my condition so stopped the Amiodorone and prescribed Bisoprolol 2.5 but within days I am feeling tired, exhausted and have no energy. Has anyone out there had similar experiences.

Bisoprolol is a beta blocker which slows everything down and does cause fatigue. The good thing is that you are off amiodarone which is a really nasty drug and should never be used long term. Ten months is more than long enough!

I know Amioderone is a nasty one but it certainly did the required job for but glad to be off it, now hoping Doctor will try other this Bisoprolol

I'm on 10mg bisoprolol & don't have any problems but it don't slow my heart down much but after my first appointment at the hospital with a cardiologist,he saw how fast my heart was going & admitted me,they then put me on amioderone, been on it for 6 weeks & the only reason I'm taking it is because it stops the palpatations I started to feel late in the evening, doesn't slow my heart down but I feel normal but after reading all the negative side effects I stopped taking it for a day & half but palpatations came back so back on half the dose 100mg & it's working, cardiovertion in 3 weeks, last one lasted 2.5 years without any meds but thinking of asking to go on flecanide & small amount of bisoprolol to keep it in check?

Thanks for reply, my AF is under control and as I understand the Bisoprolol is just to keep me in check. A later reply has suggested taking it at night time so going to give it a try, dread to think how I would be if I had to take 10mg but glad for you not to be having any side effects

Give the Bisoporol a chance, took my body about 2 weeks to adjust and now have no significant side effects. Positive mental attitude certainly helps though can be easier said than done. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply and hope my situation improves over the coming days

Try taking the bisoprolol at night to reduce its side effects.

Thanks for that advice, have already taken today's dose so will take at night from tomorrow, sounds a good idea, thanks again.

Good comment from jennydog. I checked with arrhythmia nurse who confirmed that can be taken at anytime of the day. Obviously you take it at this time every day. Worked for me then once body had adjusted just took with other meds at breakfast, washed down with a coffee.!!

Hi, I didn’t get along with 2-5 mgs Bisoprapol, so my Gp altered the dose to 1-25 mgs , I’ve been fine on this for three years!

Yes I couldn’t get on with the bisoprolol, I was on 5 mg a day but eventually split it morning and night which helped a bit. Cardiologist then moved me on to Diltiazem which has suited me much better.

I was put on 1.25mg bisoprolol- asleep I. 40 mins. Woke up with upper chest and arm pain, feeling drugged and horrible ,no exercise tolerance (max HR 123ish)

Tried it for a week then my GP changed to Atenolol- a lot better but still lousy - i only managed half a day at work as tiredness gathered and I was afraid I would not be fit to drive. Slept when I got home for several hours. Did this for 2 weeks but did not adapt. Back to the GP who suggested I could not tolerate beta blockers and put me on verapamil 120mg a calcium Channel blocker. MUCH better, no tiredness a bit of exercise intolerance but not restrictive, and eventually I halved it to 60mg per day. Happy for 22 months until my AF "developed" and I ended up on flecainide 50mg twice a day with 200mg diltiazem (another calcium channel blocker) this not so good at 200mg, brain fog , exercise intolerance and tiredness but still much better than bisoprolol. Tried 120mg diltiazem - much better but not great. but owing to an af breakthrough was put back to 200mg.

Have since had an ablation Jan 29th and been off all meds since may 15th and I am now much less tired and the thinking is so much clearer. In fact so much clearer that I will never go back to 200mg diltiazem whatever.

Although the bisoprol was originally prescribed by a cardiologist in hospital my GP made the call to change it. So much quicker and easier to do. I would try that route if I were you. There are other betablockers I have read on this forum which appear to have less issues for some people. The GP should be able to advise. It's all about get to g so ethi g that works for you buy still controls he AF rate.

Best wishes
