Louisa - I find it helps to prop up on another pillow and breathe slowly and deeply until my heartrate slows.

Hi I have hot flush and palpitations when I get up in a morning but I have been diagnosed with AF three weeks ago .I was sent by my GP to our acute medicines ward at my hospital where they try to treat and send you home to wait for clinic appointment I would go back if I was you to your gp as mine started out of the blue one Saturday afternoon

One easy thing to test is if nasal strips help and as mentioned already an extra pillow. Sleep is my last battle in improving my general wellbeing to combat AF and I also often wake up with raised HR, which I put down to incorrect breathing at night. Last night I had the sleep study kit from our local hospital strapped on and I suspect it is going to show I hold my breath (apnea) mildly as my general freshness' when waking is still reasonable.

If you are on any meds like flecainide or beta blockers give magnesium supplements a try. I may help. If it doesn't your body will still appreciate the magensium

Hello Johahan C do you by any chance know if magnesium has any bad interaction with Warfarin please. Cheers Glad x.

not that i am aware of, but i have never taken warfarin

I am on Warfarin and take 100 mg of Magnesium Citrate at lunchtime then just before I go to bed 200 mg, it has helped me to sleep as I have AF. I have been woken by a fast heartbeat nearly every night which has played havoc with my sleeping and for months have been like a zombie in the day. But Magnesium has helped and most nights I now sleep. So no interaction with Warfarin with me. Hope that helps you?

I've suffered the same on waking a few times, deep breathing and propping up with a few pillows usually slows things, and I take magnesium every night now and don't seem to get woken with the feeling anymore. I do think I my case beeing anxious about it exacerbated the rate, hard as it is relaxing and going with it probably is the way to reduce the feeling.

Hello do you know if magnesium has any adverse interaction with anticoagulant warfarin Cheers Glad x.

in reply toGladaven

Hi Glad, I take apixiban and haven't had any issues with it but I'm not a doctor so unsure about warfarin. Maybe other members on warfarin can help in that respect, but it certainly works for me I find.

Hi again Andoiduser , exactly what are all the benefits one is supposed to get from taking magnesium, what does it do for you?

in reply toGladaven

It calms the heart according to my ep and I agree it seems to, I take this and q10, another heart care supplement . And I can confirm it definitely promotes a deep sleep which I find is important with my Afib in particular.

Hi Ian I have just been on Amazon to look up these capsules you mentioned, some people have said they are not happy, the formular has changed, the capsules are much bigger and they will not buy again. Have you reordered them lately, what do you think??

in reply toGladaven

Got the last ones maybe 8 weeks ago glad, same as the ones I bought Xmas time, like all reviews I think maybe it's rivals trying to muddy the waters, unless this is a very recent change theh we're exactly the same and work as always.

How long after taking magnesium should I see an improvement?

in reply toLouisa40

Took a week or so before i really felt the benefit, but slept better more or less right away

Just chew them up and drink a glass of water, good way of getting it into your system quickly.

Louisa,

It may be breathing issues while sleeping. I suffer from sleep apnea which can cause afib and such. I find that if whenever I wake up I spend a few minutes deep breathing via my nose that my heart rate is much improved each morning that I do it. SImple to do. If I dont. then it's noticeably higher.

I'm on bisoprolol to slow my heart down. Arranged it via cardiologist secretary and my gp
